after the flood
winter came
buried her home
beneath the lake
winter stayed
for several years
froze the doors
beneath her tears
walking to
higher ground
wondering where
the sun went down
over hills and peaks and
valleys of stone
to bring some warmth
back to her home
surrounding towns
deep ocean black
no torches lit
pinched by the wind
the people stare
in a silent state
frozen in time
no life remains
without a home
to warm her bones
only statues
of frozen stone
she stoked the fire
to grant her warmth
then lit herself
and rose like smoke
